Neuropsychology and Education Clinic for Children and Adolescents

Necca is a neuropsychological and educational clinic started by Dr. Karen Kelly in 2007 to help children with brain-based or learning difficulties. Dr. Kelly is a pediatric neuropsychologist who has extensive experience with the neuropsychological evaluation and treatment of patients in pediatric hospitals as well as in the school settings. In addition, she consults with schools and physicians to help implement recommendations and evaluate responses to medication treatments. Dr. Kelly is also the author of a reading comprehension book, The Power of Visual Imagery, to help students with reading difficulties.
Dr. Kelly received her Ph.D. from Temple University in Philadelphia. She completed her predoctoral internship from Primary Children’s Medical Center in Salt Lake City, UT where she specialized in pediatric psychology and neuropsychology. She received her post-doctoral training and has worked as a psychologist conducting neuropsychological evaluations at the Nemours/duPont Hospital for Children in Wilmington, DE. In this setting, Dr. Kelly worked with children who had sustained traumatic brain injuries, from concussion to more severe brain injuries. She has provided research-based programming to assist in the rehabilitation and recovery of children following their injuries.
In addition, Dr. Kelly has also worked as a special educator, specializing in teaching children with learning disabilities, with an emphasis on dyslexia and related disorders. Dr. Kelly has also developed an intensive reading program, ReAD.IT, a 16 week structured literacy and fluency program to help children with retractable reading disorders who have not responded to other research-based treatments. Dr. Kelly works directly with schools to help teachers learn about the neuroscience of reading. She has testified at local and state levels to help children with learning disorders. Dr. Kelly was also part of the PA Dyslexia Coalition Legislative Coalition original pilot program for supporting the identification and treatment of dyslexia in the school setting.
